Easy to read and understand

I found this book easy and quick to read and the exercises easy and effective. As far as the NLP techniques in the book, maybe having a previous understanding of how and why NLP works might be helpful for others, just as a general hint before reading this particular book. I think it was helpful that I had taken a couple of classes before hand on NLP, but I can't speak for others who may not have done this and read this book maybe it worked for them too.
On a related note NLP is amazing and I've had some great improvements in my own life using NLP techniques, so anything you can find especially by Richard Bandler is a must read. The improvements are definitely real, although some exercises may feel like little steps, a few can create great laps forward in one's own self engineering and healing.

Somewhat disappointed by Bandler

I was first introduced to the subject of NLP more than 30 years ago when I took a counselling course in graduate school. I remember being fascinated by the professor's demonstrations. When I saw this more recent book by Richard Bandler, I was keen to buy it.

The most interesting part of the book is in its beginning chapters, where Bandler shows how mental images (or movies) can be manipulated to change one's fear, lack of confidence, etc. I tried to follow his instructions, but had difficulty visualising the images that he referred to. Perhaps one really requires the help of a tutor or trainer to master such techniques.

The rest of the book covers areas such as positive thinking, setting goals, etc. While useful, the areas tend to be general, and not too different from what the reader comes across in most self-help books.

The book is designed to provide instructions for self help, by taking the fictitious character Joe through a three-day seminar conducted by Bandler. For a self-help book, the author has picked a character that is too ideal, in that Joe follows Bandler's instructions and learns readily. At the end of the story, he even wins the affection of the woman he fancies. It would have been more useful if the account could cover some realistic difficulties in learning NLP techniques. Only presenting an ideal case makes the book look more like promotional literature for Bandler's seminar, rather than something designed to guide the reader in helping himself.

I must admit that I am a bit disappointed in this book.

Life changer

By far the best self improvement book I have ever read. And Iv read a-lot! The format is easy to read and follow and I love how they have set it up from the perspective of a third person instead of talking at you like most. At the end is the summary of the most important aspects. Highly recommend if your looking to change your thinking and change your life. I have seen incredible transformations in my personal and professional life after reading this as well as the sequel ultimate introduction to NLP.

A Time Honoured Classic

As live-aboard cruisers, we have frequent uses for knots, bends and hitches. We have several instructional books on knotting and splicing, and the best remains "The Marlinspike Sailor" by Hervey Garrett Smith, published in 1956. Smith's explanations and illustrations stand the test of time. They are the clearest and easiest to follow of any instructions we've found. Invariably, we always pull out "The Marlinespike Sailor" when we're at loose ends!

A Powerful Dialogue

In the guise of a simple book — rendered as a dialogue between the author's older and younger selves — Dr. Needleman continues an exploration begun in two of his earlier books, "An Unknown World: Notes on the Meaning of the Earth" and "What Is God?"

As with the earlier books, Dr. Needleman interweaves snippets of memoir with potent questions and profound insights about what it means to be a human being and our place in the universe. And, he continues to offer us opportunities to engage with the book on multiple levels — an interesting memoir, an invitation to dialogue with ourselves, a guidebook for awakening to and allowing a higher consciousness into our life.

Yet, there is something different in this book. Something subtle, yet powerful. Dr. Needleman uses the dialogue with his younger selves to directly show us how to shift our thoughts from head to heart and reconnect with our own I-ness. If we choose to be present. If we listen and look deeply.

Dr. Needleman has provided us with a valuable gift, in the form of a simple little book. I highly recommend it.

A Daring Book That Renders the Incomprehensible Somewhat Comprenhesible.

Jacob has an uncanny ability to make the mystery of being comprehensible--to make sense of "no things" that are virtually impossible to describe through ordinary language.

He has previously explored the notion of defeating time by communicating with one's younger self but in this short play he dramatizes it in ways that I found evocative of deep feeling and profundity.

How to present "transcendent" material? Jacob's readers will know the source of much of what is brought here but it is presented with Jacob's unique daring and exquisite ability with language.

I particularly found the conclusion in which he wraps things up particularly helpful.in pointing beyond the intellectual mind to those realms that are almost impossible to describe in words.

As I was reading I had an inner sense of what Ouspensky may have meant by recurrence and perhaps even what Gurdjieff was attempting to suggest to his students.

About the Author
I've been writing since I first learned the alphabet, but it wasn’t until 25 years later that I finally decided to take the deep plunge into the depths of publishing. My written work conveys the darker side of writing, bringing in to light what most may shy away from and I love every second of it. My inspiration comes to me in the form of a minefield on top of a snow covered mountain. One step and a new idea explodes in my head, and then before you know it, I have an avalanche of ideas rushing through my brain and it does not stop! When I'm not writing until the late hours of the night, I'm working as a legal assistant at a prominent law firm in Michigan. I enjoy practicing and teaching martial arts in my spare time as well as tearing up the neighborhood riding around on my super fun Honda Grom.

A Story That Will Stick Out

This is a debut novel that requires an open mind while reading. The events that take place in this work brings to light the dark underbelly of reality. Taking advantage of a story not often told the author goes as far to provide both points of view between predator and prey. In order to tell a story about human trafficking one must be willing to stray away from censorship as the author did here.
I did enjoy that J. Marie lets the intimate thoughts of the character tell as much of the story as the actual events do. The story flows and the key moments are connected without issue. There are a few times in the beginning where I had to reread to determine which character was telling the story. That is my only complaint. Otherwise I find this to be a very interesting read. For a topic that is rarely acknowledged you are thrown headfirst into a world that is very much all around us. I am looking forward to the sequel and any other work that is to follow. The ending truly will leave you wanting more!
I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys the genre and not afraid of a little grit.

This review is long overdue!! This book is fantastic, I couldn't put it down and finished it in a few hours. From the first chapter to the end you just have to keep reading to see how this story unfolds. It is a must read! The second book in this series is more intense, and once again j. Marie delivers a "can't stop reading " book!!! Cannot wait for the next book to come out. I want this series to end in a certain way so we shall see!

I came across this author looking for something new to read. Her main character Jaden is already a strong woman but after becoming part of a human trafficking ring her will to live becomes even stronger and because of that she becomes friends with Kayla another female who was stolen. This book had me from the beginning. Looking forward to reading the second book in the series.

No space-school sophomore slump

The first book was a delight: charming, funny, surreal and all about a childhood experience that I would have loved (I hated school so much, and I'm guessing classes in space tumbling and games of fireball would have improved matters). The second book is equally charming, funny and surreal. Both books are told in short story snippets that add up into a story greater than the sum of its parts. Definitely buy both books, so that you can get more enjoyment out of visiting a school that has bear-ed up security (bears with fists that double as bazookas). Marvel at the poetic entrances of Team Feety-Pajamas (a very funny though affectionate riff on a certain Pokemon villain squad). And watch the students battle against tyranny when the school "bans love and cancels fun."

Seriously, folks, this is great for all ages. A great antidote to the grim-and-gritty world of comics that have forgotten fun. The art is unique, loose and cute as all get-out. The writing is sharp. And Senor Panda (still not extinct!) is the best Spanish teacher anyone could ask for.

My son is 7 years loved this book! If you kids are in to astronauts and and comics this is a great book! We highly recommend it and are hoping to see a whole series of these books written! My son can't wait to read more. He read both books. We would love to also see some products to purchase related to the book.

Lee is a sociologist, and his approach to the sociology—or is it economics?—in Tyler Perry's films is 100 percent admirable: he writes that he 'watched each movie no less than ten times, carefully coding and cataloguing themes, plots, and character development regarding their relation to pertinent socio-cultural themes.' This is the first book-length study of Perry, and Lee is brilliant at perceiving clearly, not sentimentally, the role of religion. . . .The author never perceives movies as movies; he could be talking about novels. He deals with the meaning of ten films, looking at 'the dream and the nightmare' of blacks. Dreams are strength, education, devotion, love, freedom, blessings. Nightmares are poverty, hunger, drugs, white domination, suffering, inequality, prison, hatred, injustice, rape, and best of all, madness (especially in the Madea films). The book is lovingly informative, and Lee knows the context of the films (be it reality, novels, or other films).
