Jen Darcy is the coauthor of two Disney Editions books, Disney in Details: A Scavenger Hunt Through the Walt Disney World Resort and Let The Memories Begin!: Impressions of the Walt Disney World Resort. She has been on staff at several Disney-owned magazines: FamilyFun, Disney Magazine, Disney Adventures, and Wondertime. Jen's favorite villains are Ursula from The Little Mermaid and Shere Khan from The Jungle Book, which she enjoys watching at her western Massachusetts home with her cat, Bagheera.

Misleading

Although this book is beautifully designed and features some great pics, I expected more text on the "creation, inspiration, and fascination." In fact, this book includes very little text. AND half of it is on Pixar villains. Nothing on the book cover or Amazon listing indicated this. I was very disappointed by the space wasted on Pixar. No comparison to the Disney villains. If you want the definitive book on Disney Villains, find a copy of "The Disney Villain" by Hyperion books from 1993. GORGEOUS and featuring essays on each villain.

A Highly recommended book for us Disney fans!!!!

This book is outstanding, I have not yet finished it but its one of those books (for me anyway) that you'll find something new or missed in previous readings. The pages and the look of the pictures are high quality, each page contains a short bio on the character as well as who the voice actor, and a tidbit of information on the development of the character. Each section of the book is color coded down the long side of the page giving it a very nice look when reading and viewing it when closed. This covers from Classic Disney up till today (Zootopia) I highly recommend this book for the Disney Book Collector!!

If you're a fan of Coheed and Cambria/The Amory Wars, this is a must read. If you aren't. Maybe find something else to read.

I love the Amory Wars, the series is extremely imaginative and insane, and I'm addicted to it. However, it really does not have the best writing. Frequently the dialog is wooden, the characters do not act realistically, and there's a fair amount of cheese going on.

However, I want more Amory Wars like a heroin addict wants his next fix. I want From Fear to be passable/available so bad so I could read it, but that is just not the case.

I find that reading the books definitely enhances my experience of the music as well because the relationship between a lot of the music and the stories is itself something of a puzzle where you're trying to figure out who is singing in what part, and what part of the story this is supposed to be, etc.

The origin story of Coheed & Cambria's "The Amory Wars", "Year Of The Black Rainbow" is an accomplished story of revenge and intrigue. Action packed and well worth your time. Co-written by Coheed frontman Claudio Sanchez and comic legend Peter David. Check this book out if you're a fan of Coheed & Cambria or just awesome sci-fi in general.

"The story takes place among the worlds of Heaven's Fence, a fictional system of 78 planets held together by a mysterious energy called the Keywork (the "Keywork" symbol is a common mark for the band as well). The planets are populated by humans and are ruled over by twelve mages who posses superhuman powers. Another race also exists, the Prise, who are blue-skinned winged females that serve God as the guardians of His words. When one mage, Wilhelm Ryan, destroys the others through force and treachery and takes on the title Supreme Tri-Mage, Heaven's Fence finds itself in grave danger. The story focuses primarily on the efforts of Doctor Leonard Hohenberger to create a team of three biologically engineered androids, Coheed, Cambria and Inferno to fight against Ryan and his Red Army.

The novel is a great read and one comes to appreciate Peter David's efforts to make it into a legitimate work of fiction. For being an action novel, it really has a lot of depth to it and manages to build up a fine array of emotions. Overall, the book has a very dark feeling to it and sometimes it felt as if the heartache was never going to let up. In the end though, it was satisfying and left me wanting to know the next chapter in the saga.

Probably the most compelling aspect of the novel was its ability to incorporate such tough issues as religion, cloning, abuse, genocide and tyranny, among others. It reminded me that, despite the science fiction background of the story, Year of the Black Rainbow presents problems that are very much a reality to our own society."

I enjoy this book. this is the book only but you can get some type of audio that goes with the book, but i have no clue where. if you don't have any knowledge of the language then I would try and find some audio to familiarize yourself with the way letters sound because its tricky trying to make sense of the examples in the book.

It is okay, I thought it came with a CD, but it didn't, once agian I didn't do my homework, the only way to learn a language with a book is too have a learning CD and the words, helps much better!

Loads of material data; could be edited better, though

First, the good part about this book: it covers the basic aspects of materials science: physical and mechanical metallurgy, polymers, and semiconductors, to name a few. It goes beyond this with chapters on using materials in real design (for example, materials used in the Space Shuttle and in a commercial jet) and complements this with tables of material properties of metals, alloys and plastics. There're gobs of data tables. I frequently use this book when I need to get material property data such as yield strength of a particular copper alloy or the maximum-use temperature of a clay-filled phenolic resin. It's very handy in that regard.
Now for what I disliked: The level of coverage is very elementary, and the example problems reflect this. They're overly simplistic, often of the plug-and-chug variety. Because of this I got the impression several times that Dr. Mangonon really didn't know what he was writing about in a few areas. There are also typos and mistakes sprinkled throughout. For example, I made a decision in my work based on data I got from this book. The data turned out to be a typo, and I had to do some damage control. I could forgive a few typos; I mean, we're only human. But this book has more than what I'd consider to be an average amount.
The typography is inconsistent also. In some equations variables are italicized, but in many others they're not. This might seem to be a minor point, but this inconsistency becomes obvious the more you read this book. The effect to me was that the book didn't fully have that 100% professional layout look. Finally, the index is just horrible. It's very, very skimpy. If you're trying to find something using the index, God be with you, because you're going to need it.

Into strength training? Look no further . . .

This is the best workout log I have come across. It doesn't have alot of extra fluff in it about nutrition and excercise examples/photos -- it is just your basic workout log. If you are a serious fitness enthusiast and regularly do strength training and cardio, you already know how to do the exercises and don't need that extra stuff contained in other journals that I've seen. You will not be disappointed with this workout log if you are serious about your excercise.

Best, easiest to use workout log

The book is well made. The plastic cover is durable (dripping sweat wipes off with no harm done), the spiral binding lets the pages fold all the way around flat and is sturdy, and the pages are good stock and a nice bright white. The page layout is simple yet flexible, and can accommodate many different approaches to weight training. 15 lines of strength exercises per page, with weight/reps columns for 6 sets per exercise. Date/time/aerobics tracked at the top of the page, and room for comments at the bottom. You can store a pen in the spiral binding, and there's plenty of room to write whatever you need in the appropriate spaces on the page. There are also pages to record your current measurements and physical status, and to establish goals. And the book is not cluttered with all sorts of nonsense found in most others of this type that you simply don't need in a workout log (exercise instruction, sample routines, photos of steroid-infused professional bodybuilders, etc.). I have ordered every single workout log book that Amazon.com sells, and this is the only one I kept.

Best workout log I've seen yet.

If you're serious about going to the gym and getting in shape then The Workout Log by Joe Oliver & Kel Gleason is an essential tool to keep you motivated and on track. The book is durable and spiral bound and can take the abuse of being in your gym bag. There are 180 pages where you can enter in up to 15 different exercises with subdivisions of reps/weight used for up to six sets. This is perfect for the novice or the advanced gym enthusiast. Also on the top of the page there is space for recording your aerobic activity, time and level. Finally there is a small section on the bottom for comments. The bottom line is that this book is simple, durable, and keeps you focused. What the book does not do is get you're lazy butt in the gym....you need to do that on your own. :-)

A must have to all Miyazaki's fans! Great book!

Just received this book. It was delivered in a minion box, which is a plus. It already put a big smile on my face when I opened the mailbox.
A great book with tons of illustrations; quality paper, thick and smooth ; a lot of behind scene explanation involving film making and character creation.
I could not stop turning the pages. A must have if you are a Miyazaki or Studio Ghibli fan. This is the fast time I ever write a review about a product, within 10 minutes after opening up the package. I cannot wait to share with other fans. Please see my attached photos for your reference.

Beautifully put together art book.

This is a beautifully illustrated book, containing image stills from the movie, concept art, story boards, CGI work, and lots of interesting facts from the studio itself. This version is in English. As an artist, looking through art books gives me incredible motivation to create my own artwork, and being a HUGE fan of Spirited Away (well, Studio Ghibli in general), this book is amazingly inspirational. This book is without a doubt a treat for those who like to look at art books just to gaze at the eye candy, too! The pages are thick and sturdy, which a low gloss to them, making the coloration really pop in the images. I definitely recommend this for any fans of Spirited Away and/or Studio Ghibli!

A nice book for fans

As much as i liked the movie, i can't help to feel that the book fails to keep up to it's standard.
But don't get me wrong. The book is very complete in showing the work behind the movie, and does it neatly.

It starts with an introduction by the very same Hayao Miyazaki, and the follows with sketches, concept art, background art, character design, screenshots, and even the complete movie script.

The only critisims i could give is that the book itself feels a bit washed out. The design of the book doesn't keep up with the beautiful/folklore inpired art it is showing, plain white being the common concept from front to back cover. Maybe this isn't that important, but a preetier design would've sure make a nice adition (see Art of Okami).

That aside, a very nice book for fans of the movie.
