Felicia Kornbluh teaches history at Duke University. Super Awesome Book

We just finished it for my class and I thought it was great not a lot of people know about the welfare rights movement because of the civil rights movement going on at the time and she did a great job at showing the welfare recipients as activist and not as lazy ppl who want money it was nice to hear them as a voice and not as a stereotype!

Great textbook

I used both book I & II (along with a resource called The Perseus Project [..] which is a FREE collection of original texts & translations) in college and of all the languages I've studied I found Ancient Greek to be one of the easiest to learn, despite its difficulty, because of this wonderful textbook. The layout is straightforward, and simple. It gives many exorcises for passive and active translation. It explains the grammatical concepts well and provides a great dictionary in the back pages along with pages of tables for quick reference (the ones in this text I think are presented better than those in the Oxford Grammar Reference, especially for verbs). It is an ideal book for either a student learning in a classroom setting or someone learning on their own.

If all you want is to gain a basic understanding of Ancient Greek and the ability to do passive translation, the is almost all you'll need (except for a general dictionary once you get more into it.)

If you want to study the language extensively this is a good starting point. I have been studying Greek for around 4 years now, having progressed enough to do independent translations of actual texts, and I still use these books to review with.

In addition to this I would recommend getting/using:

The Perseus Project (This is a collection of FREE texts, maintained by Tufts University, with English translations, as well as books on grammar, etc. Each Greek word is hyperlinked and clicking on one it takes you to the dictionary entry that lists what exact case/declension/other grammatical identifiers. About the Author
Marsha M. Linehan, PhD, ABPP, the developer of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), is Professor of Psychology and of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Director of the Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics at the University of Washington. Her primary research interest is in the development and evaluation of evidence-based treatments for populations with high suicide risk and multiple, severe mental disorders. Dr. Linehan's contributions to suicide research and clinical psychology research have been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2016 Career/Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies. She is also a recipient of the Gold Medal Award for Life Achievement in the Application of Psychology from the American Psychological Foundation and the James McKeen Cattell Award from the Association for Psychological Science. In her honor, the American Association of Suicidology created the Marsha Linehan Award for Outstanding Research in the Treatment of Suicidal Behavior. She is a Zen master and teaches mindfulness and contemplative practices via workshops and retreats for health care providers.

Fantastic resource, but not exactly as advertised

As a therapist for the past 22 years, and the owner of over 500 books relating to the profession, I can easily say this is one of the most valuable books in my library. I've used it numerous times in the last 6 weeks since I ordered it, and not just for clients with Borderline Personality Disorder. If you are the owner of Linehan's original Skills Training Manual (1993) and found it not terribly user-friendly, you will be pleasantly surprised at how attractive, clear and useful the new handouts and worksheets are.

ONE BIG CAVEAT, however - the book's listing says that both handouts and worksheets are downloadable - a large reason why I bought the book. However, this is not true; I was only able to download the worksheets, and despite a number of emails with Guilford, who did seem to be trying to be helpful, I was unable to resolve this problem. They do claim that if you buy the textbook DBT® Skills Training Manual, Second Edition, you can download the handouts as well from the website listed in that book. If I had known that, I would have bought the textbook, even for the higher price. It is a pain to have to singly photocopy the handouts that I wish to share with a client...

Marsha Linehan has Done it Again

As difficult a wait as it was, this Second edition DBT Skills book knocks it out of the park. The worksheets are easy to follow and the theme of self compassion is marked throughout the book. It will be clear to anyone who has been intensively trained in DBT and those who are new to this amazing and life changing therapy that this new addition is exactly what we were all waiting for. Marsha Linehan has helped to define and change the way therapy works. As a clinician teaching DBT skills for many years I highly recommend that you run don't walk to get this book and begin using it. Full of Life Changing Insights and Exercises

I love Marsha Linehan and her work for people with BPD and other struggles. This new handout and worksheet manual is full of wonderful resources. It has a lot of information so it may be easy to become a little overwhelmed, but her principles and insights are literally life saving and life changing. It would be a great book to take to DBT skills group or to work through systematically on your own or with a therapist. If you are a DBT student and not a provider, you don't need to also buy the companion DBT Skills Training Manual which is very obviously written for DBT skills trainers and therapists.

Very Good!

I simply love this work of Lobsang, very inspirational and I believe honest. I would recommed this book highly for anyone who has an open mind & a sincere hunger to know the truth. This work of Lobsang may seem outrageous or unbievable to some, but thats the reaction of a mind that has accepted the lies spin disinformation and the slickest mind control dished out by the Illuminati Control Freaks thats behind Corporate America & England who own or control what 95% of the news wires dictate.

Rampa is on a journey, accompanied by a few fellow lamas, to meet with the beings that are telepathically leading them on. After a freezing trek through a Tibetan mountain range, they come to a warm and blissful garden called The Hidden Land. There they encounter a deserted flying saucer sitting on the ground, which they enter and explore.
Soon they meet an alien Rampa calls The Tall One, who briefs them on their coming tour through outer space, the real purpose of their journey. Instead of describing the experience as warm and fuzzy, sweetness and light, Rampa talks frankly about the terror he feels as he is surrounded on all sides by such "high strangeness." That is another aspect of the abduction experience he shares with the more recent spate of modern abductees--one's initial reaction to the alien presence is nearly always one of fear.
But after those first moments of fright, Rampa and his friends traverse the heavens on a flying saucer and witness all the beauty of an alien paradise on Venus. In all fairness to Rampa, it isn't really necessary that the location is literally the planet Venus. It could be anywhere in any universe and the message would still be the same--heaven is waiting for those who are ready to go there.
You can read "My Visit To Venus" in one sitting, but its positive effects may last you a lifetime.

I have read that this book even thou was written by Lobsang Rampa was not published by his consent.I understand it was part of the book cave or wisdom of the ancients.Typical lobsang work,unbeleavable but plausable.As a race we know little.I believe there is more to life,and this book could possibly be a peak into reality however how unreal it all seems.There isnt much content, but the manuscript and pictures more than make up for this.Food for thought.A good read.

Its thoroughness is its strength - and its weakness

"Protocols: Handbook for the Female Slave" is exactly what the title says - a protocol manual. Specifically, it is Dr. Robert Rubel's protocol manual, detailing what he expects of his own slave. Although Rubel has written an Introduction and inserted numerous paragraphs of commentary into the main text to elaborate upon certain topics for the reader's benefit, it's important to remember that this book was written essentially for an audience of one. "There are as many ways of approaching an M/s relationship as there are people practicing these activities," Rubel writes. Would-be Masters who read this book may pick up a few good ideas, but they won't find any shortcuts here around the hard work of defining for themselves what the M/s relationship means and what sort of behavior they require in a slave. Likewise, it would be silly for an aspiring slave to read this book, take it to heart, and conclude she knows everything she needs to know to enter service - unless she's planning to petition Dr. Rubel.

What makes "Protocols" a valuable addition to the M/s literature has much less to do with its specific content than with its structure, its format, its simple existence. It's 150 pages of object lesson: there are plenty of books out there that talk about the concept of protocol, but here we see that concept made manifest. The purpose is not to tell the reader what his or her own system of protocols should be, but to give the reader a deep understanding of their meaning and purpose. Outside of those basic principles of etiquette which are more or less universal in the BDSM community, slave protocols are by their nature inherently idiosyncratic: it is the slave's duty to serve her Master according to his specific desires, not to be amorphously and generically pleasing. As with any other intimate interpersonal relationship, the concrete examples of others are at the same time brilliantly illuminating and nearly irrelevant.

The greatest virtue of "Protocols" is Rubel's seamless weaving together of theory and practice, allowing the abstract and the concrete to enhance each other from within. We appreciate the importance of protocols all the more when provided with examples of how they enhance the day-to-day existence of the author and his slave, and long lists of behavioral requirements that might otherwise seem dull and irrelevant suddenly seem quite special when we turn our attention to their purpose.

Masters looking to define or clarify their own system of protocol may well find this manual to be a valuable source of inspiration. Although it's probably too idiosyncratic to serve as a specific pattern or outline, its thoroughness will invite readers to consider their preferences in areas they might otherwise not have considered. Readers may well choose to borrow, or adapt to their own purposes, many of Rubel's protocols in the areas of communication and general behavior. Novice Masters and/or slaves interested in becoming involved with the larger BDSM community will find Rubel's chapter on "Social Issues" especially worthy of consideration as they prepare to present themselves to others in the context of their relationship, although they should be sure to familiarize themselves with the basics of general BDSM etiquette first. Although Rubel's commentary seems to be intended mostly for other Masters, this book should prove interesting and valuable reading to the novice would-be slave as well, helping her think clearly through the fantasies to understand what the calling to a life of consensual slavery really entails.

There's so much that's valuable in this book, but at times the thoroughness and detail that make it such an excellent object lesson make it painfully tedious to actually read. I couldn't help thinking it might have been more beneficial had Rubel trimmed down his own manual and published it either along with some other protocol manuals reflecting different approaches to M/s, or as part of a larger work dealing more with the practical realities of the M/s lifestyle. Rubel has a fancy-dining fetish, and one long chapter, comprising nearly a third of the book's content, details the elaborate dinners he likes to have in his home several times a week, dinners the author admits are "so stylized, I have prepared a handout that serves as a Guide to Guests." That's all perfectly well and good for him, but readers who don't share his fetish may find it hard to keep a straight face. This is a man who, without any sense of irony, uses the term "informal meal" to refer to a dinner at which the dessert fork and/or spoon are included in the place setting, everyone stays seated during the toast, and the slave brings two plates to the table at a time in her ungloved hands (in contrast to a "formal meal," at which the dessert fork and/or spoon would be brought in on the dessert plate, guests stand for the toast, and the slave wears gloves to bring out one plate at a time). Rubel has instructions, not only for his slave but for his guests, about the correct way to lay one's napkin in one's lap and the proper side from which to get into or out of one's chair. My point is not to ridicule Rubel's fetish - I've long been intrigued myself by the thought of attending a formal (if much less "stylized") M/s dinner - but to point out that there's a little too much in this book that's just a little TOO idiosyncratic.

Rubel identifies with the Leather subculture within the BDSM community, and he notes outright that his book is written from a Leather perspective and may not "resonate" with those readers to whom he refers, somewhat condescendingly, as "Non-Leather." There's a reason Rubel is respected and his books widely read among 24/7 lifestylers of all kinds; much of what he has to say both acknowledges and transcends differences. His "Master/Slave Relations: Handbook of Theory and Practice," though not without its own flaws, is so far the best book of its kind and deserves a place in every M/s household. In "Protocols," however, being the highly personal document that it is, Rubel's Leather identity is much more pronounced, much more inseparable from what he has to say. That's not to say that non-Leatherfolk won't benefit from reading it, but they should be aware that it's written from a *very* definite Leather perspective. Rubel claims that the Leather subculture is spiritual and holistically sensual in a way that non-Leather BDSM generally isn't, though to me personally it seems rather like a sort of elaborate game, at least the way Rubel goes about it. (By my way of thinking, a person is either free or not, either owned or not, and a free person isn't owned, and an owned person isn't free - yet Rubel speaks of having a Mistress as well as a slave, and of his slave having her own submissive. I guess this sort of thing works for them, but it's totally unthinkable to me.)

Rubel's relationship with his slave definitely tends toward the employer/employee model of M/s. Although he speaks of his love for his slave, and hers for him, what he describes comes across more as an amicable partnership than a passionate union of souls. That's fine - it certainly clears up some of the boundary issues that more romantically inclined M/s couples tend to struggle with - but it does make some aspects of this book less useful for those whose relationships are differently structured. (Take the subject of discreet protocols to be used out in vanilla public. As Rubel's "personal assistant," his slave can call him "Sir" without coming across as weird. As my Master's lawfully wedded wife, I can't.) I agree with Rubel that "the slave is NOT Master's 'girlfriend' . . . a person with the same rights and responsibilities as her partner; the slave is property and has only those rights given her by her Master." My problem in this area is not so much that what's in the book doesn't apply to me as that so many of the things that are important to me aren't in the book. Rubel discusses the protocols that relate to his slave in her capacities as his "valet, butler, chef, secretary, hostess, entertainer, research assistant, nurse, healer, maid, kinky play partner and sex partner extraordinaire," but there's nothing here that sheds any light on the question of how to integrate M/s protocols with my role as sweetheart, wife, and best friend. There's nothing wrong with this, per se - Rubel is writing, as he should, according to what he lives and believes - but it will make this book more appealing and useful to some prospective readers than to others.

There's one definite flaw I couldn't help noticing in this book, and it would be almost too minor to mention if it didn't speak indirectly to the author's credibility. Throughout the book, Rubel repeatedly emphasizes the importance he places on correct English and precise diction, with special attention to the connotations of words. Poor grammar and vocabulary, he writes, "[jar] the senses (like discordant music)." Later, he states, "I am sensitive to regional speech patterns my slave uses and have required that the slave eliminate them." (For example, she's not allowed to say "I'd like for you to help me"; she has to say "I'd like you to help me.") In Chapter 3, Rubel tells us that he and his slave "explore and discuss" over dinner "differences between such words as: decry/descry, pore/pour, and tortuous/torturous." Imagine my amusement, then, ten pages later, when Rubel informs us that "statements [that imply that the slave acted of her own will] are contrary to the core tenants of a Master/slave relationship." (Apparently they hadn't made it as far as "tenant/tenet" just yet.) In the same paragraph, Rubel speaks of "an accidental mishap." (As opposed to a deliberate mishap, I suppose.) In fact, the whole book is full of just such subtle errors: errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, agreement. There are some passages in which Rubel shifts inappropriately between second and third person ("Make sure the boots are clean: I do not want you to polish in any dirt. The slave will use saddle soap to clean the boots"). Perhaps most unforgivably as concerns shoddy editing, Rubel at one point refers the reader to Appendix C, when what he's talking about is really in Appendix D.

"Protocols" is a book that does contain much of value, but readers are more likely to find it generally inspiring than particularly useful. Those with a particular interest in formal high protocol in Leather settings will find it invaluable, but those whose approach to the M/s dynamic tends to be more casual will find it little more than an intriguing, intimate curiosity.

Very well done

This book is a very good book for anyone who is looking into a higher protocol lifestyle. I have used this book thoroughly and I have loaned this book to others who have used it just as much. The book is excellent, full of great information, and a quick and easy read. There are some areas that are very much geared towards those of a "higher class", but I can't hold that against the author. This is his handbook for those in service to him. This book sends you in the right direction of how to put together your own handbook.

True love wins

I have to agree with everyone that has said this was a quick read. It is short but very sassy.
On the way to her wedding Kylie's maid of honor confesses that she has been sleeping with her soon to be husband. Needless to say Kylie doesn't go through with the wedding.
After a week of self pity her two girlfriends talk her into going to Vegas for a romance conference. Kylie has another plan in mind. While she is there, she is going to pitch her interior decorating ideas to the hotel owner. But first she is going to enjoy the masquerade ball being held for the romance conference. and if she happens to find a man to hook up with and forget the travesty of her almost marriage so much the better.
When she runs into Jake at the masquerade ball she decides he is just what she was looking for and decides to spend the night with him. Neither one of them reveal who they really are and this sets up the rest of the story.
When will Jake admit to her that he is the owner of the hotel and when he does will Kylie be able to forgive the lie after her whole wedding fiasco.
I found myself alternating between cheering for the two of them to be together and yelling at them for being so stupid to not admit who they were to each other so they could have the happily ever after.
I was given a copy in exchange for an honest review.

An entertaining love story by Dawn Chartier, that is not only enjoyable, but funny at times, as the reader is drawn into the world of sin city, Las Vegas itself!..............After discovering on her wedding day, that her millionaire fiance cheated on her, interior designer, Kylie Edwards, vowed not only to give up on men, but rich men! Against her protests, her best friends come up with a plan, by forcing Kylie to forget her troubles, have fun, and what's a better place to achieve that purpose? Vegas! With a business appointment, to meet the CEO and owner of the Masquerade Hotel anyway, why not? She may even land the account, for her decorating ideas, of remodeling one of the most famous hotels in Las Vegas. However, little did she know, that her life was about to take a different direction, as she accidentally plowed into one of the most handsomest and sexiest men of all time. With her wedding day still fresh on her mind, instead of apologizing, she was rude, sarcastic, and downright obnoxious, as the head of security, mumbled his sincere apologies. Jake Royale couldn't believe that he just lied his butt off, to the gorgeous brunette, but after overhearing a story, that this particular beauty hated rich men, he felt he had no other choice, for two reasons. First, he wanted to see more of her, regardless how she felt, and secondly, he was not only rich, but he was the owner of the hotel. With the Masquerade ball coming up, he would seize the opportunity like always, to wear his mask, sit back, and be himself, and maybe, just maybe, an opportunity may arise, where he can have some time with miss Kylie Edwards. Although he didn't know it at the time, but Jake was about to get his chance, when her idiot fiance shows up, begins manhandling her on the dance floor, given Jake the chance, to save Kylie and the day, as he has the jerk, escorted off the premises. When Kylie gets to know Jake, more and more, she realizes that she never wanted a man, like she wanted this one, and before they both knew it, they found themselves having a one-night stand, something she didn't think, she would be forgetting anytime soon. At least Jake wasn't, as the thought of Kylie leaving Vegas soon, tore at his heart, but what scared him more, was the fact, that he was about to have his next business appointment in his office, meeting interior decorator, Kylie Edwards, in the flesh! With his emotions on high alert, while trying to figure out what to do, this is one time, that Jake could really use a mask, to prevent him from losing the most important thing in his life....Kylie!.......Will Jake and Kylie survive the turmoil?..........an entertaining, yet intriguing love story....very enjoyable.....thank you....♡♡

I just couldn't

At first, I thought I just couldn’t finish this book, so when I first wrote my review, I had only whole heartedly made it through 33% on the Kindle version. But it’s rare that I do not finish a book, so I pushed through the absurdity of this one, and finished; though I mostly skimmed through the remaining 60-some % of the book. So my review is mainly based on the first third of the book, though I got the gist of the rest of the book, and it didn’t seem to get better.
First, it is written very poorly, bad grammar and very sophomoric all around. The characters are very immature; especially the way she handles the whole fiancé cheating is very juvenile, not the way she reacts, I get the depression, it’s the way she handles him, which is basically she doesn’t. The heroine makes random assumptions based on two brief meetings of the hero. The characters have no depth, mainly one dimensional, and they don’t evolve, ever. They say & act ways that just don’t fit or make sense, & there was no evolution to show us how they got there. I hope I’m not giving away too much, but Hero lies, Heroine finds out, Hero says I’m sorry, heroine is really hurt, Hero is like but I like you, heroine is like oh well than, ok. {sigh} REALLY!!! It really seems like a high school student wrote it. For specifics, see the spoiler alerts below.
***Spoiler Alerts*** Kylie’s hiding out in apartment depressed for a week, her two bff’s show up to drag her to Vegas, her one friend is an author and is attending a Romance Writers Convention there. This convention is conveniently held in the same hotel that has an appointment with Kylie’s big wig Fathers interior design firm to remodel it. So her two bff’s convince her CEO father to give the job to Kylie, which he does, now she has a reason to be in Vegas, to work. Kylie admits her father would have never have given her the job otherwise, his opinion isn’t too high of her, thank goodness for her friends convincing him. REALLY!?! A CEO of a major design company is going to be convinced by his daughters ( who he has no faith in) two best friends, LAST MINUTE! Now Kylie obviously has a rocky relationship with her dad, the CEO of a major design corporation, than her multi millionaire CEO fiancé of another major corporation cheats on her, so she deems all CEO executive types as bad people she needs to stay away from. So through mistaken identity, when she first meets Jake, she thinks he’s just some hotel employee named Macon and actually tells him “I’m so glad you’re not like those stupid stuffed suits. You’re helpful and actually care if you hurt somebody”. This is during their 3rd conversation EVER, she has only ran into him twice before, once literally and she was extremely rude to him that time. She doesn’t know him to say stuff like that. And lumping all CEO’s into one pile, very “mature” of her (sarcasm). Another quote “What is it with you CEO a55-wipe types”? again, the CEO hate I just wasn’t buying into it, she is a professional adult with a college degree, who not only works for, but works with, CEO’s as part of her career, again I just couldn’t ***END SPOILERS***
Basically, no I would not recommend this book to my friends. But that is just my opinion. If you like a simple, easy read, and you can let the technicalities go, you might like this book. And as far as the romance parts go, they weren’t that hot and pretty unoriginal, but again that’s just my opionion.

About the Author
Jonathan Worstell earned his Physics degree from Northwestern University then switched to the chemical sciences, earning an MS in Chemistry from Ball State University and a PhD in Applied Chemistry from Colorado School of Mines. Dr. Worstell worked at Eli Lilly and Company and Northwestern University Medical School prior to starting a thirty year career in the petrochemical industry. After retiring from the petrochemical industry, he began an academic career at University of Houston where he teaches senior level chemical engineering courses. Dr. Worstell also consults with several global petrochemical companies.

A practical approach to dimensional analysis by one of the best experts in the field.

As an engineer who learned dimensional analysis directly from the author, I can guarantee you that the author's approach in dimensional analysis is very practical and can be used to not only scale up equipment and processes but also systematically analyze process plant problems. The author has been a technical consultant for my company for a few years already, and I can guarantee you about the depth of knowledge he has on this topic. This book is another great job by the author.
